Ankeny Christian Academy baseball standout Eli Christensen has verbally committed to play for Des Moines Area Community College in Boone.
Christensen announced his decision via social media on Friday.
“Excited to announce my commitment to @DMACCBaseball to continue my academic and baseball career!” he tweeted. “Blessed that God has given me this opportunity! Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for making this possible! Go Bears”
Christensen said he picked DMACC over a couple of other junior-college offers.
“It was a tough decision, but I decided DMACC will be the best fit for me,” he said.
Christensen, a senior, has helped the Eagles to an 82-24 record over the last four seasons. He owns a career pitching mark of 14-4 and has batted .400 or better in every year since he became a starter as an eighth grader.
As a sophomore in 2022, Christensen went 3-0 with a 0.52 ERA and had 62 strikeouts in just 27 innings of work. He also batted .459 with two home runs and 38 RBIs.
Christensen helped the Eagles to a 26-2 record for the best season in school history. He earned third-team all-state honors.
As a junior, Christensen posted a 4-3 mark with a 3.46 ERA and had 93 strikeouts in 52 2/3 innings, giving him 227 career strikeouts. He also batted .423 with one homer and 21 RBIs.
Christensen was named to the all-district second team.
“DMACC is recruiting me as a pitcher, but they are also giving me the option to play as a two-way (player), meaning I would hit as well,” he said.
