The Ankeny Centennial boys’ golf team traveled to The Legacy Golf Club in Norwalk for the second time in six days on Tuesday–this time for a CIML Conference triangular meet against Johnston and Waukee.
The Dragons shot a 293 to win the meet, while Centennial posted a score of 316 and came away with a split. The Jaguars defeated Waukee, which finished with a 319 total.
“Some sickness and other circumstances gave a couple younger kids an opportunity to play varsity, and Tiernan Logan took advantage of his opportunity,” said Centennial coach Andrew Reedy. “He struggled early, but was able to hang in there and give us a score we used. It was great to see.”
Zach Hoffman led the Jaguars with a 78, while Logan and Charlie Morrissey each fired a 79. Logan’s brother, Tate, and Nathan Boehlert each carded an 80, and Jackson Lewis added an 83.
“Zach and Nathan both made a double (bogey) on 18. Otherwise, they both played pretty solid,” Reedy said. “Charlie was another kid that battled and stayed in it after some struggles. We’re just going to keep working each day and keep trying to get better. I saw a lot of good things on the golf course today!”
Centennial is now 2-4 in the conference. The Jaguars had placed fifth in the Waukee Northwest Invitational on Thursday, shooting a 314 on the same course.
Owen Howe of Johnston was the medalist on Tuesday with a 71.
The Jaguars will compete in the Ankeny Invitational on Wednesday.
“We’re looking forward to playing at Otter Creek,” Reedy said.
