The Class 5A regional volleyball pairings have been announced by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union.
Second-ranked Ankeny Centennial (22-5) has received a first-round bye in Region 2. The Jaguars will host Iowa City West (6-18) or Waterloo East (6-19) in a regional semifinal on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
No. 15 Council Bluffs Lincoln (17-18) will host Sioux City West (14-8) in the other semifinal match. The regional final will be played on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the highest ranked team in the last IGHSAU rankings.
Ankeny (19-12), which dropped to eighth in the latest rankings, has also received a first-round bye in Region 8. The Hawkettes will host Urbandale (8-16) or Council Bluffs Jefferson (5-18) in a regional semifinal on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
No. 10 Iowa City Liberty (13-17) will host Ottumwa (18-7) in the other semifinal match. Ankeny has won two of three meetings against Liberty and could meet the Lightning again in the regional final, which will be played on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the highest ranked team in the last rankings.
