The pairings are set for the Class 5A football playoffs.
Both Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial are slated to face familiar opponents.
The seventh-ranked Hawks (6-3) will host No. 10 Johnston (5-4) on Friday at 7 p.m. It’s a rematch of a game from Sept. 15 that Ankeny won, 16-10.
The two teams also met in last year’s playoffs. The Dragons posted a 23-13 victory at Ankeny in the quarterfinals to reach the UNI-Dome for the first time in school history.
The Ankeny-Johnston battle is one of two first-round matchups in Pod B. No. 2 Dowling Catholic (8-1) will play No. 15 Sioux City East (5-4) in the other game at Williams Stadium, with the two winners to meet in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3.
No. 13 Ankeny Centennial (5-4), meanwhile, will travel to No. 4 Waukee Northwest (7-2) in a Pod D contest. The two teams played a week ago at Ankeny Stadium, where the Wolves posted a 17-7 win.
No. 5 Bettendorf (7-2) will host No. 12 Iowa City High (6-3) in the other opening-round game. It will also be a rematch–the Little Hawks just rolled to a 42-21 win at Bettendorf on Friday.
If Centennial defeats Northwest, the Jaguars would have to travel again in the quarterfinals as the lower-seeded team.
