Ankeny Christian Academy volleyball star Katie Quick has been named to the elite all-state team by the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association.

Quick, a junior setter, was also selected the Class 1A player of the year after leading the Eagles to a second consecutive state championship. She has verbally committed to play for Drake.

Quick ranked fourth in Class 1A with 880 assists. She also racked up 150 aces, leading the entire state in that category for the second year in a row.

ACA coach Michele Quick, Katie’s mother, was named the Class 1A coach of the year for the second straight season. She guided her team to a 39-3 record, matching last year’s mark, and a 29-match winning streak to end the season.

Quick was joined on the Class 1A all-state first team by two of her teammates, junior outside hitters Carley Craighead and Macey Nehring. Both Craighead and Quick were repeat selections.

Craighead led the Eagles with 322 kills and a .406 hitting percentage. She ranked third in the entire state with 102 aces.

Nehring, a third-team pick as a sophomore, finished the season with 234 kills. She ranked second in the entire state with 110 aces.

Two other ACA players also earned all-state honors. Junior middle blocker Anna Weathers was named to the second team, while senior libero Riese Gjerde was a fourth-team pick.

Weathers had 259 kills and a team-high 40 blocks. Gjerde led the Eagles with 329 digs.

All-district teams

Craighead, Nehring, Quick and Weathers were all repeat picks to the Class 1A South Central all-district team. They were joined on the squad by Gjerde and junior outside hitter Morgan Fincham.

Michele Quick was also a repeat selection as the district coach of the year.

All-conference teams

Craighead and Quick were both unanimous picks to the Bluegrass Conference first team. They were joined on the squad by Nehring and Weathers.

Gjerde and Fincham were both named to the all-conference second team. Senior middle hitter Chloe Roe earned all-conference honorable mention.
