The Ankeny bowling teams closed out the first part of their season with losses to Southeast Polk and Johnston.
The Ankeny girls’ squad nearly picked up its second victory on Dec. 21 at Game Day Lanes, but the Hawkettes came up just short in a loss to Johnston–falling by a score of 2,121 to 2,108. Still, it was the team’s best score of the season.
The Ankeny boys’ squad also posted a season-high score of 2,605, nearly 200 pins better than its previous high. But it wasn’t enough to beat the Dragons, who finished with a total of 2,919.
Both Ankeny teams lost to Johnston for the second time. The Dragons also swept the season opener on Nov. 30 at B-Roll Bowling.
Kole Jordan led the Hawks with a 403 series. Jamal Miller bowled a 389, Jackson Roberts had a 341, Gavin Johnston rolled a 321, Sam Tigges had a 317, and Jarrett Hansen added a 279.
Olivia Harris bowled a 338 series to lead the Hawkettes. Kali Ogg bowled a 324, Brooklyn Dietz had a 285, Lili Sinclair rolled a 238, Savannah Dye had a 223, and Ava Johnson finished with a 203.
The Ankeny girls’ team dropped to 0-3 in the CIML Conference and 1-5 overall. The Hawks’ records dropped to 0-3 and 0-6.
On Dec. 19, both Ankeny squads fell to Southeast Polk in a conference meet at Great Escape. The Hawkettes lost by a score of 2,406 to 1,885, while the Hawks fell by a score of 3,095 to 2,406.
Miller paced the Ankeny boys’ team with a 408 series. Tigges rolled a 348, Johnston had a 324, Jordan bowled a 286, Roberts had a 280, and Hansen finished with a 262.
Ogg rolled a 326 series to lead the Hawkettes. Harris bowled a 249, Dye had a 234, Dietz rolled a 228, Johnson had a 216, and Sinclair added a 213.
Both Ankeny teams will return to action on Jan. 9, when they return to Game Day Lanes to face Dowling Catholic in a conference meet.
