Ankeny Centennial senior Will Nesler has committed to play baseball at Iowa Central Community College.
Nesler, a shortstop, said his ultimate goal is to play at the Division I level.
“I looked at many schools from DI all the way through to (junior colleges),” said Nesler. “I had a lot of (Iowa Community College Athletic Conference) offers and wanted to take the juco route to bet on myself and get better as well as gain some weight to further achieve my goals. It was down to NIACC and Iowa Central, and I chose Central because they have a lot of development and have sent many players to DI, which is my goal.
“You are always competing with the best players every day, and they will push me to get better,” he added.
Nesler helped the Jaguars to a 20-16 record as a junior. He batted .361 and had 26 RBIs.
Nesler had a team-high seven triples and 10 doubles among his 48 hits. He also stole 12 bases in 12 attempts and led the Jaguars with 32 runs scored.
Nesler was named to the Class 4A all-state third team by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. He was selected to the CIML Conference first team and to the Class 4A North Central all-district second team.
