Ankeny Centennial senior Jenna Benkufsky has committed to play tennis at Cornell College in Mount Vernon.
It took Benkufsky a little while to find the right school for her.
“I looked at a number schools within Iowa and one was no better than the other, but when I visited Cornell, I just knew that it was the school for me to continue not only my academics, but my tennis as well,” she said.
Benkufsky helped Centennial to the best season in school history last spring. The Jaguars went 12-3 and placed fourth in the Class 2A state team tournament.
Benkufsky posted a 10-2 record in singles, including a 9-1 mark while playing at the No. 3 position. She qualified for state in doubles along with teammate Ara Lofgren.
“There was so much that I liked about Cornell, but I loved the environment of the tennis team, athletic facilities, and the coaches,” Benkufsky said. “I also loved the school, and the academic block plan that they offer was what sealed the deal for me. I knew that Cornell was the perfect fit.
“I can’t wait to start my new academics and play tennis for coach (Trent) Schneider!” she added.
