Ankeny senior Emma Gott found what she was looking for at St. Cloud State, where she will play soccer for the Huskies next year.
“I visited a few schools, but when I walked onto St. Cloud State’s campus it felt like home,” said Gott. “It wasn’t a tough decision for me because they have an amazing nursing program, which is what I plan on majoring in. Their facilities for nursing were something I’ve never seen before, and they are very high quality.”
Gott, a forward, helped the Hawkettes to a 12-4-1 record and a trip to the state tournament last season. She was limited to 10 games due to an injury, but still contributed two goals and an assist.
Gott, who earned all-conference honorable mention, was impressed by the Huskies’ soccer program.
“I love the coaches. Both the head coach and assistant coach have established such an inclusive and one-of-a-kind environment that I truly don’t think I would’ve gotten anywhere else,” she said. “They really care for the well-being of their players, and it shows through their coaching philosophy. The players on the team that I’ve met so far were also very welcoming and kind. They’re a good team and have done well in past seasons as well as have a family sort of feel when it comes to being a team.”
Gott announced her verbal commitment to St. Cloud State on Jan. 21. Five days later, Ankeny teammate Sophie Loeffler also committed to the Huskies.
Loeffler, a junior, will join the program in the fall of 2025.
“I did know that Sophie had went on a visit the day before I did, but didn’t know the details of it,” Gott said. “After my visit I told her I got an offer and was going to commit there. We talked for the next few hours over both our visits, and I kept cracking jokes about how this is a sign she should go there as well. About a week after I announced my commitment, she had a call with them and texted me right away saying she was committing there.
“Soph is one of my best friends so I’m super excited for her to be there with me and for all she’s accomplished,” Gott added.
