The Ankeny girls’ tennis team was simply overmatched on Tuesday.
But the Hawkettes aren’t the only team that has felt that way against Waukee Northwest.
The visiting Wolves posted an 11-0 victory over Ankeny for their third consecutive shutout. They improved to 3-0 in the CIML Conference, while the Hawkettes fell to 1-2 in the league and 3-3 overall.
Northwest, the defending Class 2A state champion, had earlier posted 11-0 wins over Dowling Catholic and Waukee. The Wolves lost one set in each of those first two meets before sweeping all 11 matches on Tuesday without dropping one.
Still, Ankeny coach Katie Owens was proud of her team’s effort on the Hawkettes’ Senior Night.
“It was a beautiful day for tennis honoring our seniors!” Owens said. “The girls battled each point and learned from their matches!”

Ankeny will be back at the Prairie Ridge courts on Thursday to face Ankeny Centennial in the annual Jag-Hawk showdown. The Jaguars are 1-2 in the conference and 2-5 overall after defeating Southeast Polk on Tuesday.
