The Ankeny girls’ bowling team ended its season on Monday with an eighth-place finish in a Class 3A state qualifying meet at Cedar Falls.
The Hawkettes got off to a good start with a 149 in the first of their 15 baker games, putting them in third place. But they then fell behind with a 95 in their second game and never recovered.
Ankeny finished with a total score of 2,009. The Hawkettes had a high game of 181 in their next-to-last game.
Dubuque Senior won the team title with a score of 2,760. Cedar Falls placed second with a 2,617 and also qualified for the state tournament.
Dubuque Senior also dominated the individual portion of the meet, posting the four highest scores. Clara Pregler led the way with a three-game total of 685, finishing 97 pins ahead of teammate Alison Hedrick.
Kali Ogg led Ankeny with a 481 seres. She bowled games of 185, 153 and 143.
Lili Sinclair finished with a 414 total. Savannah Dye had a 408, Olivia Harris rolled a 389, Brooklyn Dietz had a 371, and Ava Johnson added a 336.
The Ankeny boys’ squad will compete in a Class 3A state qualifying meet on Tuesday.
