Ankeny senior Sam Tigges closed out his high school bowling career with another solid effort on Tuesday at Cedar Falls.
But he still wasn’t satsified.
Tigges bowled a three-game series of 641 in a Class 3A state qualifying meet. He bowled games of 212, 204 and 225, but it wasn’t good enough to qualify for state.
“I feel like I could have done better, but we had some really tough competition and I had some of the highest scores,” said Tigges. “I put up a good fight.”

Darrian Helstrom of Davenport Central was the individual champion with a 735 total, including a perfect game of 300 in his second game. Chris Fordyce of Cedar Falls was the runner-up with a 711 series.
Ankeny’s Jamal Miller bowled a 225 in his second game and finished with a 592 total. Gavin Johnston had a 232 in his second game en route to a 582 series.
Jackson Roberts posted a 549 total for the Hawks. Zane Shoning had a 510, and Jarrett Hansen finished with a 468.

Ankeny placed seventh in the team competition with a total of 2,663. The Hawks had a 236 in their sixth baker game, but then surpassed 200 just one more time in their final nine games.
Davenport Central won the team title with a 3,337 total, an average of 222.5 per game. Johnston placed second with a 3,223 and also qualified for state.
