Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer standout Ty Duax is headed to Macomb in the fall.
The senior forward/midfielder has verbally committed to play for Western Illinois.
“For me, it was a pretty easy choice,” said Duax, the son of Centennial coach Brian Duax. “Western showed a lot of interest, and I clicked with the coaching staff pretty quickly. I didn’t have a ton of schools calling for me. The top ones were St. Cloud State and St. Edward’s University with some interest from schools like Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.”
Duax has helped the Jaguars to a 41-15 record and three trips to the state tournament in his career. He holds the school record with 38 career assists.
Duax has also scored 31 goals for a career total of 100 points. As a sophomore in 2022, he racked up 16 goals and 20 assists while earning first-team all-state honors in Class 3A.
In 2023, Duax had eight goals and a team-high eight assists while helping Centennial to a 10-6 mark and a trip to the Class 4A semifinals. He earned first-team all-conference honors for the third straight year and was also selected to the Class 4A all-state second team.
Duax is confident that he made the right decision.
“I chose Western because of the distance from home and the impact I believe I can make on the team,” he said.
