Taylor Runchey and the Wartburg College women’s basketball team have reached the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament.
Runchey, a former Ankeny Centennial standout, helped the Knights to a 54-53 victory over Bates College in the Sweet 16 round of the Division III tournament on Friday at Providence, R.I. She had two points, five rebounds and four assists in the win.
Macy Harris scored on a driving layup in the final seconds for the game-winning basket. She finished with 13 points, while former North Polk standout Jaedon Murphy led Wartburg with 14.
The Knights (28-2) advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time since 2019. Their 28 wins is the most for the program since the 2017-18 season.
Wartburg will play Washington and Lee University on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for a trip to the Final Four.
