The Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer team won’t have to wait long to get back onto the field.
After dropping a 4-3 decision at Urbandale in their season opener on Thursday, the Jaguars will head to Iowa City West on Friday for three more contests this weekend.
“It was not the start we were hoping for, but lots of good things came out of the game,” said Centennial coach Brian Duax.
Urbandale posted a 6-11 record a year ago, but returns many of the starters from that team. The J-Hawks avenged last year’s 4-1 loss at Centennial.
The CIML Conference game was tied at 2-2 at halftime before Urbandale took control in the final 40 minutes.
“We made many mistakes, and Urbandale punished us for them,” Duax said.
Ty Duax scored a goal and also had an assist to lead the Jaguars. It was his 39th career assist, extending his own school record.
Lucas De La Cuba and Ben Ridlen had Centennial’s other goals. Brock Brazeau added an assist.
“The boys battled to the very end trying to get the tying goal,” Duax said. “We just came up a bit short.”
The Jaguars will play Cedar Rapids Prairie on Friday at 7 p.m. They will face Iowa City West on Saturday at 11 a.m., then will meet Cedar Rapids Washington at 3:15 p.m.
