The season got off to a rainy start for the Ankeny girls’ golf team.
The Hawkettes placed third among five squads in the Waukee Northwest Invitational on Monday. The meet was held at The Legacy Golf Club in Norwalk under cool, cloudy and rainy conditions.
“Overall, I’m really proud of our start this year!” said Ankeny coach Kelley Emke, who was making her debut with the program that she once played for. “It was an extremely tough day to play golf.”
Northwest shot a 341 to easily win the meet. Norwalk was the runner-up with a 393, and Ankeny was next with a 409.
Addison Smith carded a 93 to lead the Hawkettes. She placed 14th as an individual.
Isabella Ross took 16th with a 95. She made a birdie on the par-4, No. 4 hole.
Ankeny’s Aubree Moeller shot a 109. Gracie Block fired a 112, and Ava Sesker added a 113.
“Our girls pushed through (the weather), and we were able to come away with third,” Emke said. “This meet also gave all of us a lot of information. We know where we can improve and what to work on to be ready for (the Ankeny Centennial Invitational next) Monday at Briarwood.”
Northwest’s Allison Pettitt finished at 3-over-par to earn medalist honors. She finished three strokes ahead of teammate Piper Sandfort.
