The Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer team simply couldn’t find the net.
The Jaguars took nine shots, four of them on goal, but were unable to score during Friday’s non-conference game against visiting Omaha (Neb.) Skutt Catholic.
The Skyhawks eventually got the winning goal in the 96th minute to post a 1-0 victory in double overtime.
“It was a really hard-fought game,” said Centennial coach Brian Duax. “The boys played really well.”
Ty Duax had four shots for the Jaguars, two of them on goal. Logan Page had three shots, and Andrew Kruger added two.
Goalkeeper Andrew Nelson made three saves for the Jaguars, who dropped to 2-4 on the season.
“We controlled most of the game, but we just didn’t finish chances,” Duax said. “We’re very unfortunate to not get a result.”
Centennial will host a CIML Conference game against Dowling Catholic (4-0) on Tuesday. The Maroons posted a 1-0 victory over Valley in their conference opener on Friday, then followed with a 2-0 win over Skutt Catholic on Saturday.
