A challenging week for the Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team ended on Thursday with an 11-0 loss at Urbandale.
The Jaguars suffered their third shutout loss in three days and their fourth in a row overall. They finished 2-6 in the CIML Conference and dropped to 3-9 on the season.
The J-Hawks finished 4-4 in the league and improved to 8-5 overall.
“Our girls faced another tough test tonight,” said Centennia coach Alli Gustafson. “Their team challenged us with strong consistency from the baseline and the ability to finish points at the net. While we had some trouble finishing points early to counteract those, our girls continued to battle for every point and never gave up. With just one regular-season meet left, we’re excited to see how the girls finish strong and continue to work toward our season goals.”
Centennial’s No. 2 doubles team of Ella Sutherland and Laura Schulz lost a close match in three sets. They won the second set before dropping a 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (7) decision to Urbandale’s Lexi Van Steenis and Ajla Karajic.
The Jaguars will close out the regular season on Tuesday with a non-conference meet at Ames (5-3).
