The Ankeny boys’ tennis team ran into a buzzsaw on Tuesday.
The Hawks dropped an 11-0 decision at Johnston in a CIML Conference meet. It was the season opener for the Dragons, who won all 11 matches in straight sets.
“They are pretty deep, and we committed the same mistakes over and over,” said Ankeny coach Ron Miller. “This team is still new to tennis every day. It takes a few weeks to understand that you either grow and make changes or get totally frustrated with oneself.”
Ankeny competed well in some of the matches, though. The Hawks won at least six games in three different matches.
Ankeny’s records fell to 0-2 in the conference and 0-3 overall.
The Hawks will travel to Mason City on Thursday for a non-conference meet.
