Ankeny Centennial senior Nick Hiney has signed a letter of intent to play tennis at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.
Hiney is in his third season as a varsity regular for the Jaguars. He has helped the team to a 1-2 record this year, including a 1-1 mark in the CIML Conference.
“I looked at a lot of schools in the (American Rivers Conference) like Wartburg, Loras, Cornell and Central,” said Hiney. “What stuck out to me about BVU was the school and especially the tennis team. Me and coach Groen bonded right away, and I felt a strong connection between us from the start. I also met some of the guys, and we also got off on a really good page.”
Hiney primarily played doubles as a sophomore, but also saw some singles action. He started his junior season as the Jaguars’ No. 4 singles player but eventually moved up to the No. 2 spot, where he currently remains.
Hiney teamed up with Brayden Wellendorf for a fourth-place finish in doubles at last year’s Class 2A district tournament.
