The weather finally cooperated on Wednesday for the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team.
The Jaguars took advantage of the favorable conditions to defeat Valley and Urbandale in a CIML Conference triangular meet at Briarwood Golf Club.
“It was a beautiful afternoon for our last home meet of the season,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “We had seven seniors who got the opportunity to play on Senior Night.”
Centennial posted a 180 total to finish nine strokes ahead of Valley. Urbandale shot a 203.
The Jaguars raised their dual record to 4-0 in the conference.
“Our scores were consistent today, which was good,” Petersen said. “I was worried about a dropoff after the long, windy day in (Marion on Tuesday).”
Centennial’s Payton Drefke carded a 2-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors by seven strokes over runner-up Shanel Sayre of Valley. She was the medalist for the second time this season and the eighth time in her career.
Drefke started her round with seven consecutive pars. She then made a bogey on the par-4, Nos. 8 and 9 holes.
Cate Trewet and Brooke Ridout each shot a 47 for the Jaguars. They placed fifth and sixth overall, respectively.
Kaylee Sprecher fired a 48, Sophia Wilson had a 49, and Kate Geiselhart added a 51.
Centennial will compete in the Linda Bloom Invitational on Thursday at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
