Girls’ soccer standouts Emma Gott and Alli Macke of Ankeny and Maddison Balashaitis of Ankeny Centennial were named to the Class 3A all-tournament team on Saturday at Cownie Park.
Gott and Macke helped the Hawkettes reach the semifinals of the state tournament earlier in the week. Balashaitis and the Jaguars took top-ranked Waukee Northwest into overtime before dropping a 3-2 decision in a shootout in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Balashaitis, a junior defender, scored on a header in the second half of Centennial’s loss. She later converted one of the Jaguars’ penalty kicks.
Gott, a senior forward, had a pair of goals in Ankeny’s 3-0 win over Waukee in the quarterfinals. She added an assist in the Hawkettes’ 2-1 loss to eventual champion Bettendorf in the semifinals on Thursday.
Macke, a junior midfielder, assisted on Gott’s second goal in the quarterfinals. She then scored Ankeny’s lone goal against Bettendorf, her team-leading 15th of the season.
Bettendorf star Carson Bohonek was named captain of the all-tournament team after leading her squad to the crown. She had a hat trick on Saturday in the Bulldogs’ 3-1 victory over Valley in the title game.
