Friday’s non-conference doubleheader at the Rails Academy & Sports Complex matched a pair of softball teams riding long winning streaks.
Host Des Moines Lincoln used a four-run third inning to post a 4-2 victory over top-ranked Ankeny Centennial in the opener. The loss snapped the Jaguars’ 12-game winning streak.
It was the seventh consecutive win for the Railsplitters, but Centennial then ended that streak in dominant fashion. The Jaguars won the nightcap, 11-0, in six innings to earn a split of the twinbill.
Centennial (22-5) was led to the victory by Cora Boyle, who tossed a three-hitter and had four strikeouts while improving her record to 13-0. She lowered her ERA to 1.68.
Boyle also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. She is now batting .360 on the season.
Addi Starr doubled and drove in two runs. Mary Brantley also had two RBIs.
Mady Ott went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Ava Faber knocked in a run.
The Jaguars took a 4-0 lead in the third inning. They added two runs in the fifth, then erupted for five more in the sixth.
Lincoln (21-8) overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the first game. Sophia DeFino hit a go-ahead three-run homer for the Railsplitters, her first of the season.
CJ Risius tossed a seven-hitter and had four strikeouts. Centennial’s Lauren Sandholm (9-3) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while recording six strikeouts.
Ott went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the loss. She is now batting .402 with a team-high eight homers and 27 RBIs.
The Jaguars will play a non-conference game on Monday at Interstate 35 (15-10), the No. 10 team in Class 2A.
