The Ankeny Centennial baseball team has earned a No. 1 seed for postseason play, while Ankeny has been awarded a No. 4 seed and will have to hit the road.
The fourth-ranked Jaguars (22-8) are in Class 4A Substate 4 and will host Marshalltown (4-25) in a quarterfinal game on Friday, July 12 at 7 p.m. With a win, coach Mark Hey’s team would receive a bye in the semifinal round.
Centennial would host the substate final on Wednesday, July 17 at 7 p.m. The opponent would be Des Moines Roosevelt (20-11), Fort Dodge (17-15), Dowling Catholic (13-14) or Ames (21-14).
Ankeny, meanwhile, has been placed in Substate 2. The Hawks (14-21) will play a quarterfinal game against Council Bluffs Lincoln (17-14) on Friday, July 12 at 5 p.m. at Iowa Western Community College.
The winner would likely face Sioux City East (22-9) or Valley (10-15) in the semifinal round on Monday, July 15. That game would be hosted by the highest-seeded team.
Second-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes (27-2) is the No. 1 seed in Substate 2. The Mustangs host Sioux City West (2-30) in a quarterfinal game and would advance to the substate final with a victory.
