It’s been a season of twists and turns for the Ankeny softball team.
Now, with the postseason just around the corner, the eighth-ranked Hawkettes need to find their mojo.
Ankeny dropped a pair of games to rated opponents at the Carlisle tournament on Friday, extending its losing streak to four games–matching a season-high.
The Hawkettes fell to Dubuque Wahlert, 6-0. Wahlert (23-8) is the No. 3 team in Class 3A.
Ankeny also dropped a 4-3 decision to Carlisle (29-8), the No. 9 team in Class 4A. The Hawkettes are now 19-18 on the season.
Ankeny was held to four hits in the loss to Wahlert. Kaylyn Miller and Grace Rood each had a single and a stolen base for the Hawkettes, who were blanked for the fourth time this season.
Aubrey Lensmeyer (7-9) took the loss. She allowed five earned runs on eight hits and had eight strikeouts.
Lensmeyer went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the loss to Carlisle, but it wasn’t enough. Miller also doubled and scored a run, while Abby Rusher had an RBI.
Rusher (12-8) allowed no earned runs on five hits and had seven strikeouts. The Hawkettes committed three errors that led to four unearned runs.
Carlisle’s Natalie Ramsey went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run, her first of the year. She knocked in two runs.
Logan Brown and Mallie Stoner combined on a seven-hitter for the Wildcats. The duo racked up seven strikeouts.
Ankeny will play one more game at the tournament on Saturday against Bondurant-Farrar (25-9), the No. 11 team in Class 4A. The Hawkettes will try to avenge a 3-0 loss at the Creston tournament on June 7.
