Ankeny volleyball standout Kamryn Scheib has verbally committed to play for Bellevue University, an NAIA school located in Bellevue, Neb.
Scheib, an outside hitter, said she picked the Bruins over UW-Platteville and UW-Stevens Point.
“Those were my top three options,” said Scheib. “But I really loved how the (Bellevue) coach and players treated me, and the campus is super nice. They’re building a new sports facility for their athletes.”
Scheib helped the Hawkettes to a 24-15 record as a junior, including a trip to the Class 5A state tournament. She led the team with 301 kills and also had 33 aces.
Scheib was named to the Class 5A all-state third team by the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association. She was selected to the Class 5A West all-district team and was also a CIML Conference second-team pick.
Bellevue has competed in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) since the 2015-16 academic year. The Bruins offer 14 intercollegiate varsity sports.
“It’s nice that it’s only two hours from home so I can come home some weekends,” Scheib said. “It’s about 20 minutes from downtown Omaha, which is great. I had a gut feeling when I visited the school that it was the one for me.”
