After landing three players from Ankeny over the weekend, the University of Sioux Falls football program missed out on another local prospect.
The Cougars were among the teams that recruited Ankeny senior-to-be Andrew Haase, but the defensive end announced on Sunday that he has verbally committed to Wayne State College (Neb.).
Haase visited Drake, Sioux Falls, Southwest Minnesota State, Wayne State and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville before making his decision.
“I had offers from all those schools,” Haase said. “It was a hard decision to make as I liked a lot about each of the colleges. It took a lot of discussion with my coaches and family to make this decision.”
Sioux Falls, SMSU and Wayne State are all members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wildcats posted an 8-3 record in 2023.
“I really liked the coaches at Wayne State,” Haase said. “I liked the direction the program is headed. They made me feel at home. I liked their family-centered mentality.”
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Haase helped the Hawks to a 9-4 record and a runner-up finish in Class 5A as a junior. He was named to the all-district second team in District 6.
Haase made 24 tackles, including six solo stops. He also recorded two sacks.
