The initial RPI rankings for Class 5A football were announced on Monday by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Ankeny is 12th with an RPI of .5468. The Hawks (3-3) are ranked ahead of six teams with better records, including No. 14 Ankeny Centennial (4-2).
Ankeny boasts a strong strength of schedule. Its opponents have combined for a 33-21 record (.6111), the third-best mark in Class 5A.
Centennial, meanwhile, has an RPI of .5386. The Jaguars’ opponents are currently 22-32 (.4074), the fourth-lowest mark in Class 5A.
The top 16 teams in the final RPI rankings will make the Class 5A playoff field. Here is the current top 16:
