The regional volleyball pairings have been announced by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union, and all three of Ankeny’s teams have been awarded No. 1 seeds.
Top-ranked Ankeny Centennial has been placed in Region 1 in Class 5A. The Jaguars (24-3) will host a regional semifinal against Urbandale (2-21) or Des Moines East (5-17) on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
Ottumwa (22-5) will host Des Moines Roosevelt (15-12) in the other semifinal. The regional final will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
No. 3 Ankeny, meanwhile, has been placed in Region 3. The Hawkettes (33-4) will host a regional semifinal against Cedar Rapids Jefferson (6-20) or Cedar Rapids Washington (2-23) on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
No. 14 Iowa City High (14-10) will host Waterloo West (11-12) in the other semifinal. The regional final will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
Both Ankeny and Centennial would host the regional final if they are the highest remaining ranked team.
In Class 1A, No. 1 Ankeny Christian Academy has been placed in Region 1. The two-time defending state champion Eagles (26-4) will host a regional quarterfinal against Melcher-Dallas (5-9) or East Union (2-20) on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
ACA would also host the regional semifinal on Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The regional final will be played on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at a neutral site.
There are no other current ranked teams in ACA’s region. Mormon Trail (14-1), whose only loss was to the Eagles, is among the teams on the bottom half of the bracket.
