Ankeny Centennial moved up two spots to No. 12 in the latest Class 5A RPI football rankings, while Ankeny dropped three spots to No. 15 heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
The Jaguars (5-2) rolled to a 45-3 victory over Des Moines Roosevelt on Friday and appear to be in good position to make the 16-team playoff field. They will play at No. 17 Waukee Northwest (3-4) on Friday before hosting No. 19 Urbandale (3-4) in Week 9 on Oct. 25.
Ankeny (3-4) dropped a 28-20 decision at No. 2 Iowa City Liberty, but is still in the thick of the playoff chase. The Hawks are ranked ahead of five teams with four wins because of their strong strength of schedule.
Ankeny will host No. 4 Valley (6-1) on Friday before traveling to No. 28 Cedar Rapids Washington (2-5) for its final game on Oct. 24. It’s possible that a win over Cedar Rapids Washington, regardless of the outcome of the Valley game, could get the Hawks into the playoffs.
