The Ankeny divers continued to make some progress while competing in the CIML Conference meet on Thursday at Waukee.
Gabby Gagne placed 15th in the 11-dive varsity competition with 288.80 points. Teammates Kambelle Subbert and Isla Corron finished right behind Gagne, placing 16th and 17th with 279.40 and 278.25 points, respectively.
Holli Hetzer of Southeast Polk won the meet with 459.00 points.
“Gabby and Isla improved their 11-dive scores for the season,” said Ankeny diving coach Chris Amundson. “Kambelle had some struggles, but fought through them and still had a pretty good night. All of the divers have room to improve as we prepare for state qualifying in Johnston on Nov. 7. I am excited for the girls to work on cleaning up their current dives and trying to find dives to increase their Degree of Difficulty (DD) in their lists over the next two weeks.”
Ankeny’s Miranda Gagne won the six-dive junior varsity competition with 196.75 points. Olivia Luna placed 14th with 143.35 points, while Isabel Peverill was 15th with 139.35.
“The meet started out great as Miranda was the CIML JV diving champion,” Amundson said. “We used this meet to help build up her self-confidence, and I think that is exactly what happened for her. Isabel and Olivia ended their seasons with good performances, and I am very proud of how they ended the season.”
The swimming portion of the conference meet will be held on Saturday at Waukee, beginning at 10 a.m.
