Ankeny diver Miranda Gagne has qualified for next week’s girls’ state swim meet at Marshalltown.
Gagne competed in a regional meet on Thursday at Johnston and posted a score of 324.75 points. She will be seeded 27th among the 32 state qualifiers.
“Miranda had great confidence throughout the meet and really didn’t make an error until her final dive,” said Ankeny diving coach Chris Amundson. “She will go up against the best in the state on Friday and it will be tough, but she is a fighter and I am excited to see how she does.”
Gabby Gagne and Kambelle Subbert also competed for Ankeny. Subbert just missed qualifying for state.
“The girls had a fantastic meet and really gave it their all,” Amundson said. “Along with many season bests on many of their dives, Miranda and Kambelle both had PRs and Gabby was equal with her best. Kambelle just missed (qualifying for state), sitting in 33rd place when only 32 made it. I am heartbroken for her as she missed by one point, but both her and Gabby were steady throughout the meet and I am very proud of how their seasons went.”
Kamila Swanson of Iowa City West was the top qualifier across the state with 494.2 points. Holli Hetzer of Southeast Polk, who also competed at Johnston, was second with 491.1.
Ankeny will compete in the regional swim meet on Saturday at Mason City.
