Ankeny Centennial offensive lineman Gavin Humphrey has verbally committed to play football next year at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, an NCAA Division III school.
The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Humphrey announced his decision on social media over the weekend.
“I’m blessed to announce that I will be committing to UW-Platteville to pursue my academic and athletic career,” Humphrey tweeted on X. “Thankful for all of the people that helped me get here. @CoachSheehan12 @Ryan_Munz @D1Apex”
Humphrey, a center and long snapper, helped the Jaguars to an 8-3 record and a trip to the Class 5A quarterfinals this season. He was a repeat selection to the District 1 first team.
Humphrey was a two-way player who saw some action on the defensive line as well. He made 5.5 tackles, including two solo stops and one for a loss, and also recovered a fumble.
Last spring, Humphrey was a state qualifier for the Class 4A state track meet in the shot put.
Humphrey will be joining a program that enjoyed an historic season this fall. The Pioneers went 9-2, captured the WIAC title, and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs before dropping a 19-14 decision at Wartburg College on Nov. 30.
