Devyn Robinson’s outstanding collegiate volleyball career came to an end on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.
The fifth-year senior middle blocker/right-side hitter had three kills and a block as second-seeded Wisconsin was swept by No. 1 Nebraska for the third time this season in an all-Big Ten Conference regional final of the NCAA Tournament. The Cornhuskers posted a 26-24, 25-17, 25-21 victory to advance to next week’s Final Four.
Third-ranked Nebraska (33-2) will play either Penn State or Creighton on Thursday at Louisville, Ky. The No. 7 Badgers finished the season at 26-7.
The Cornhuskers outhit Wisconsin by a .210 to .126 margin. Taylor Landfair led the way with 13 kills for Nebraska, while Sarah Franklin had 12 kills to pace the Badgers.
The Cornhuskers racked up 12.5 blocks, including two on the final four points to help close out the sweep. They took a 23-20 lead in Set 3 when Harper Murray blocked a spike attempt by Robinson, a former Ankeny Centennial star.
Robinson answered with a kill on the next point, but that proved to be Wisconsin’s last gasp. Nebraska then forced a sideout that gave the Cornhuskers a match point, and Robinson was blocked again on the ensuing point to seal the deal.
