The Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial girls’ basketball teams opened postseason play on Saturday night with lopsided victories.
The fourth-ranked Jaguars rolled to a 68-17 triumph over visiting Marshalltown, while the No. 14 Hawkettes cruised to a 66-14 win over visiting Sioux City East in another Class 5A regional semifinal. We’ll have stories on both games coming later today, including a look ahead to Tuesday’s matchups in the regional finals.
The boys’ postseason begins this week. Centennial travels to Sioux City North on Monday for a Class 4A substate quarterfinal, while Ankeny will host a semifinal on Friday against the winner of a game between Dallas Center-Grimes and Fort Dodge.
No. 3 Valley clinched the boys’ outright CIML Conference championship with a 79-57 victory over No. 8 Waukee on Thursday. Trevin Jirak had 18 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for the Tigers, who will now try to win a third consecutive Class 4A crown.
