Ankeny’s Savannah Gage has been selected to play in the Larry Niemeyer Senior All-Star Game along with fellow girls’ basketball standouts Mya Crawford and Jaeden Pratt of Ankeny Centennial.
The event will be held on Saturday at Cedar Falls. It will consist of a series of six all-star games, beginning at 9:15 a.m.
Crawford, Gage and Pratt will all play for the Class 3A/4A/5A Select White team coached by Kristin Meyer of Dowling Catholic. Among their teammates on the squad will be Ava Zediker of Dowling, Alyssa Bartlett of Southeast Polk, Abby Tuttle of North Polk and Libby Fandel of Cedar Rapids Xavier.
Fandel is coming off a record-setting performance at the Class 4A state tournament, where she led the eighth-seeded Saints to their sixth state title. She finished the week with a 4A tournament record 94 points and 53 rebounds, including an overall single-game rebounding record with 25 in a quarterfinal victory over Sioux City Heelan.
Saturday’s event will be a homecoming for Crawford, who spent most of her childhood in Cedar Falls and played for the Tigers as a freshman before transferring to Centennial.
The Class 3A/4A/5A Select White team will face the 3A/4A/5A Select Gray squad in the opening game at 9:15. Amani Jenkins of Class 5A state champion Johnston and Emilee Sorensen of Waukee will be among the players on the 3A/4A/5A Select Gray team, which will be coached by Jennifer Goetz of Pleasant Valley.
