Tuesday was a big day for the Ankeny girls’ golf program.
The Hawkettes shot a 175 in a CIML Conference triangular meet at Sugar Creek Golf Course in Waukee, allowing them to earn a split against Waukee Northwest and Urbandale.
The Wolves posted a 156 total on their home course to defeat both opponents. However, Ankeny got a victory against Urbandale, which shot a 211.
“I am so proud of all of our girls,” said Ankeny coach Kelley Emke. “We shot a 175, which far exceeded our expectations and showed the girls just what they are capable of. We walked away with our first conference win not just this year, but I think in the last three seasons!”
Madalyn Ross carded a 39 to lead Ankeny. She placed third overall.
Ava Clarkson and Isabella Ross each fired a 45. Aubree Moeller and Ava Sesker each had a 46, and Catherine Nelson added a 48.
“The leadership I saw today was so great, and it was a wonderful feeling to come back strong after a tough day (Monday),” Emke said. “I am also really proud of our JV. Every single girl improved on previous scores from the year. We are all starting to see our hard work pay off. I’m looking forward to our home invite on Thursday!”
Northwest’s Hannah Kenkel shot a 37 to earn medalist honors. Teammate Adalyn Wiig was the runner-up with a 38.
