Ankeny Centennial soccer standout Tate Duax has committed to play for Northeastern University, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Division I school is located in the heart of downtown Boston, Mass.
“The city of Boston is fantastic,” said Centennial coach Brian Duax, Tate’s father. “He’ll have every opportunity he could ever want. The school is a 5-minute walk to Fenway Park and a 10-minute walk to TD Garden.”
Duax has helped Centennial to a 7-5 record and a No. 10 ranking in Class 4A this season. He leads the Jaguars with nine goals, four assists and 22 points.
Duax left Ankeny as a freshman to join the Austin FC Academy, where he helped the U-15 team to the championship of the 2023 Generation Adidas Cup. He returned home last spring and joined the Jaguars’ squad at midseason.
Duax announced his decision on social media earlier this week.

“I am very excited to announce my commitment to Northeastern University to play Division I soccer,” Tate wrote. “I want to thank my parents and coaches that have helped me along the way. So grateful for this new chapter. Go Huskies!”
Duax also had offers from American University, William & Mary, Drake and Western Illinois. His older brother, Ty, is a freshman at Western Illinois.
“For me, the coach at Northeastern stood out the most,” said Tate. “I think he’s going to build something special at Northeastern. That’s the main reason (for my commitment), and then Boston is just a great place to be.”
Northeastern is coached by Jeremy Bonomo, who took over the program a year ago after spending nine seasons at Green Bay, where he was the two-time Horizon League Coach of the Year.
“The coach sees Tate very highly and has him as a big part of his recruiting plans,” said coach Duax. “Tate was completely comfortable with him, and I’m very happy for Tate.
“I think he’ll thoroughly enjoy the city of Boston and thoroughly enjoy the style of soccer they’re going to play,” he added.
