
Taking advantage of a beautiful day, the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team placed fifth among 12 squads in the Dragon Invitational on Monday at Jester Park.
The Jaguars posted a score of 365.
“The weather was perfect!” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “We shot our best score to date.”
Fourth-ranked Waukee Northwest shot a 316 to defend its team title. No. 8 Norwalk placed second with a 332, while No. 14 Southeast Polk was third with a 348.
Saleah Vivanh Vong of Des Moines East carded a 71 to earn medalist honors. Evelyn Kinney of Norwalk was the runner-up with a 74.
Centennial’s Kate Geiselhart fired an 86 to place 14th. Teammate Cate Trewet took 17th with an 89.
Ava Entrekin and Kaylee Sprecher each had a 95 for the Jaguars. Danika Kraus shot a 104, and Teagan Skinner added a 107.
“Our attitude and effort helped lead us to two scores in the 80s and two in the 90s,” Petersen said. “I was very happy to see the team have some success!”
Centennial will face Northwest and Southeast Polk again on Wednesday, when the Jaguars host a CIML Conference triangular meet at Briarwood Golf Club. The action gets under way at 1:30 p.m.
