The Ankeny boys’ tennis team rolled to its second win in two days by defeating host Southeast Polk, 9-2, in a CIML Conference meet on Tuesday.
The Hawks got wins from all six of their singles players, who then teamed up to sweep the top three doubles matches. Southeast Polk’s only victories came at Nos. 4 and 5 doubles.
“Treyton (Riesberg) and Carter (Garcia) fought back to win in singles,” said Ankeny coach Ron Miller, whose team won four of the five matches that went to a third-set tiebreaker. “They played well after losing their first sets. Carter was down 1-5 in his second set only to take it in a tiebreaker and then took the lead in the third and never let up.
“And then we won two third-set tiebreakers in doubles 10-8 and lost one 11-9,” Miller added.
Ankeny improved to 1-4 in the league and 3-4 overall. The Rams’ records dropped to 0-5 and 0-8.
Southeast Polk had lost by shutout against all four of its previous CIML opponents.
The Hawks will travel to Dowling Catholic on Thursday for another conference meet. The Maroons are 3-2 in the league and 5-2 overall.
