The Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team shot a 397 and placed 14th among 15 squads in the Linn-Mar Invitational on Tuesday at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion.
Pleasant Valley posted a 324 total to defend its title. Cedar Rapids Xavier was the runner-up with a 341.
“We finished about where I thought we would,” said Centennial coach Marty Kiepe. “Hunters Ridge is not shy of areas to get in trouble, but I’m happy with how we handled the adversity of some of those tough holes and how we matched up with such a loaded field.”
Cate Trewet again led the Jaguars with a 90. She has posted the team’s best score at all five meets this season.
“I think she would tell you she didn’t have her best stuff, but I’m proud of how she handled herself,” Kiepe said. “She made a lot of really tough bogeys out there that could’ve easily been bigger numbers.”
Centennial’s Isla Corron and Maddy Gochoel each shot a 101. It was the varsity debut for Gochoel, a sophomore.
“Maddy posted her new low 18-hole score and a low nine-hole score with a 47 on the front nine,” Kiepe said. “After going third, first and first in JV meets last week, she continues to keep up the good work. And Isla matched her 101–she was another girl with minimal varsity experience putting together a good round.”
Gretta Borich fired a 105 for the Jaguars. Madi Trosper had a 110, and Teagan Skinner added a 117.
Centennial will host a CIML Conference triangular meet against Urbandale and Waukee on Wednesday at Briarwood Golf Club, beginning at 3:30 p.m. It will be the Jaguars’ Senior Night.
