The Ankeny boys’ tennis team dropped a 9-2 decision at Dowling Catholic on Thursday as the Maroons ended a losing skid while snapping the Hawks’ winning streak at the same time.
Dowling won five of the six singles matches and four of the five doubles matches. The Maroons, who were coming off their first two losses of the season, improved to 4-2 in the CIML Conference and 6-2 overall.
Ankeny’s records dropped to 1-5 and 3-5. The Hawks had opened the week with back-to-back wins over Ottumwa and Southeast Polk.
Garrett Weichers provided Ankeny’s lone win in singles. He posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Landon Cody at the No. 1 spot.
“Garrett had a nice win,” said Ankeny coach Ron Miller.
The Hawks’ No. 2 player, Grady Schlosser, was unable to play singles. Michael Black moved up a spot to replace him and fell to Ian Chapman, 6-3, 6-2.
“Michael had a nice match, but after that we were overmatched with everyone moving up a notch,” Miller said.

Ankeny also got a win from the No. 5 doubles team of Holden Sungren and Owen Johnson. They defeated Graham DeJong and AJ Ranallo, 6-4, 6-4.
The Hawks will host a conference meet against Waukee Northwest on Tuesday. The Wolves are 6-0 in the conference, 9-0 overall and have yet to lose even a single match against a CIML opponent.
