
The Ankeny Centennial boys’ track team easily defended its title at the West Marshall Relays on Thursday in State Center.
The Jaguars won four events and racked up 180 points. Baxter was the runner-up with 128.5 points, followed by Lynnville-Sully with 115.
Three of Centennial’s wins came in the field events. Johnathan Gilbert took the shot put with a throw of 50 feet 5.5 inches.
Caleb Larson won the discus with a toss of 138-11. He was second behind Gilbert in the shot put at 49-0.
Brandon Bakkum won the long jump with a leap of 20-3, edging two other competitors by just one inch. Teammate Camden Sherwood was the runner-up in the high jump at 6-0.
James Naert provided the Jaguars’ other victory in the 200. He was clocked in 22.96 seconds.
Treyce Young placed second in the 100 in 11.16. He was edged by Kinnick Geers of West Marshall by .01 seconds.
Centennial also got second-place finishes from Sawyer Goble in the 800 (2:03.43), Bennett Weicher in the 3,200 (10:40.98) and Devin Boyle in the 110 hurdles (16.03). Anders Peck added a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles, posting a time of 16.39.
The Jaguars will now gear up for the championship season, which begins on Thursday with the CIML Conference meet at Waukee Northwest.
