The sixth-ranked Southeast Polk softball team avenged a doubleheader loss from last week by posting a 13-4 victory over visiting Ankeny in four innings on Thursday.
The Hawkettes were looking to complete a sweep of the season series, but Southeast Polk pounded out 11 hits off three Ankeny pitchers and also capitalized on six walks to turn the game into a rout. Emma Munger (3-11) took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on five hits over the first 1 1/3 innings.
The Rams improved to 7-11 in the CIML Conference and 17-12 overall. Ankeny’s records dropped to 6-13 and 10-17.
The Hawkettes got another big game from shortstop Kensington Arringdale, who went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs. She homered for the third straight game and now has 10 on the season, accounting for half of the team’s total.
Brylee Bach and Reagan Hogan each had a hit and an RBI in the loss. Morgan Fisher and Avery Nelson each had a hit and scored a run.
Ankeny will play in the Linn-Mar Invitational this weekend. The Hawkettes will open up the tournament against Marion (16-12) on Friday at 11:45 a.m.
