
The second-ranked Ankeny Centennial softball team has been awarded the top seed in Class 5A Region 2 by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union.
Ankeny, meanwhile, has been placed in Region 4. The Hawkettes (10-16) are seeded third and will play at 11th-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie (16-8) in a regional semifinal on Saturday, July 11 at 7 p.m.
Centennial (29-2) will host a semifinal game on July 11 at 7 p.m. The Jaguars will play the winner of a quarterfinal matchup between Sioux City East (12-16) and Council Bluffs Lincoln (6-20) on July 9.
No. 15 Muscatine (14-9) will host Iowa City Liberty (15-9) in the other Region 2 semifinal. The highest remaining ranked team from the final IGHSAU rankings will host the regional final on Tuesday, July 14 at 7 p.m.
No. 4 Dallas Center-Grimes (22-2) is the top seed in Region 4. The Mustangs will host Marshalltown (10-14) or Des Moines East (0-14) in the other Region 4 semifinal, with the highest remaining ranked team from the final IGHSAU rankings to host the regional final on July 14 at 7 p.m.
In Class 1A, Ankeny Christian Academy has been placed in Region 3. The Eagles (16-3) will host North Tama (9-4) or Baxter (3-19) in a regional quarterfinal on Wednesday, July 8 at 7 p.m. at North Polk Middle School.
ACA could play at No. 15 Martensdale-St. Marys (10-11) in a regional semifinal on Friday, July 10 at 7 p.m. No. 3 Fort Dodge St. Edmond (20-6) is the top seed and could host the regional final on Monday, July 13 at 7 p.m.
