
The Class 4A substate baseball pairings were announced on Tuesday by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Ankeny Centennial was awarded a No. 3 seed in Substate 4. The Jaguars (17-13) will host fourth-seeded Dallas Center-Grimes (16-11) in a substate quarterfinal on Friday, July 10 at 7 p.m.
It will be a rematch of a game on May 21 at Dallas Center-Grimes, where Centennial used a four-run fifth inning to post a 5-4 win.
Ankeny, meanwhile, earned a No. 4 seed in Substate 3. The Hawks (10-23) will play at third-seeded Des Moines Roosevelt (19-13) in a substate quarterfinal on Friday, July 10 at 7 p.m.
Eighth-ranked Cedar Falls (20-9) and No. 10 Valley (19-13) are the top two seeds in Substate 4. They will host quarterfinal games against Cedar Rapids Jefferson (4-27) and Des Moines East (10-21), respectively.
No. 7 Johnston (18-10) and No. 9 Urbandale (21-11) are the top two seeds in Substate 3. The Dragons will host Marshalltown (6-22) in a substate quarterfinal, while the J-Hawks will host Dowling Catholic (7-21).
The top remaining seed in each substate after the quarterfinal round will receive a bye in the semifinals and will host the substate final on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. The other two advancing teams will meet in a substate semifinal on Monday, July 13 at 7 p.m.
