The Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team is still seeking its first victory.

The Jaguars traveled to Waukee on Tuesday for their CIML Conference opener and dropped a 7-4 decision to the Warriors. They fell to 0-4 overall.

“Having four meets in a row has given the girls a lot of much-needed match experience, and we’ve seen so much growth as they continue learning how to compete, adjust, and battle through long matches,” said Centennial coach Alli Gustafson. “We’re ready to get back to practice (Wednesday) to continue growing and refining our skills.”

Tuesday’s meet was the season opener for Waukee, which won four of the six singles matches. The Warriors sealed the win by taking three of the five doubles matches.

Centennial got victories from Anna Pedersen at the No. 4 singles position and Riley Heyer at the No. 5 spot. Those two then teamed up for another win at No. 3 doubles.

“Riley had a great day in both singles and doubles!” Gustafson said. “She battled through some long, competitive matches and did a great job staying composed and competing for every point, even when she was down in games. Her ability to stay mentally engaged and keep fighting from start to finish was a huge positive today!”

The Jaguars also got a victory from the No. 4 doubles team of Miley Makovec and Carly Oliver.

“We’ll take what we learned from these four meets and get back to work (Wednesday)!” Gustafson said.

Centennial will host a conference meet against Johnston (0-0) on Thursday.

Here are the match-by-match results from Tuesday’s meet:
