The Ankeny Centennial boys’ golf team shot a 321 and placed second in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Thursday at the Urbandale Golf and Country Club.
The Jaguars lost to Waukee, which won the meet with a 315 total. They defeated the host J-Hawks, who posted a score of 340.
“It’s been a tough week after a great week last week,” said Centennial coach Andrew Reedy. “We need to regroup and prepare for the stretch run with districts as our target for playing our best golf. I have challenged the kids to search for ways they can get better and to keep their focus on the big picture which is the postseason.”
Waukee freshman Sam Federly carded a 75 to earn medalist honors. Centennial’s Nathan Grider was the runner-up with a 78.
Kinnick Nelson fired a 79 for the Jaguars. He tied for third overall with Waukee’s Reid Baumgart.
Centennial’s Ricky Beckwith shot an 81. Charlie Knoll carded an 83, Bennett Lewis had an 84, and Everett Bloyer added an 85.The Warriors improved to 3-1 in the conference. The Jaguars are now 2-4, while Urbandale dropped to 0-4.
Centennial will compete in the Turk Bowman Invitational on Monday at Ames.
“We’ll practice (Friday) and then take the weekend off before we head to Veenker,” Reedy said.
