The rain stopped long enough on Monday for the Ankeny girls’ tennis team to play its penultimate meet of the regular season.
The Hawkettes traveled to the Waveland Tennis Complex in Des Moines for a non-conference meet against Roosevelt and dropped a 7-4 decision to the Roughriders, who won four of the five doubles matches after the two teams split the six singles matches.
“We finished in the dark,” said Ankeny coach Katie Owens. “The girls played some tough matches! It was fun to see the girls compete and battle in the tiebreakers.”
The loss dropped Ankeny’s record to 3-10. Roosevelt improved to 6-4.
The Hawkettes will play another non-conference meet on Tuesday at Boone (9-1) to close out the regular season.
