After suffering four consecutive shutout losses, the Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team got a much-needed victory on Tuesday.
The Jaguars posted a 9-2 win at Ames in a non-conference meet. They improved their record to 4-9, while the Little Cyclones dropped to 5-6.
“Walking away with a win was the perfect way to end our regular season!” said Centennial coach Alli Gustafson. “So many girls played some of their best tennis of the season, and it was so fun to see all of the hard work, growth in skill, and confidence come together at the same time. We seemed to hit our season peak today.”
Centennial’s Ella Sutherland, Laura Schulz, Carly Oliver and Miley Makovec each had a pair of wins on the day. The Jaguars will now be off until Sept. 23, when they travel to Marshalltown for a Class 2A regional tournament.
“I am so proud of how this team has committed to getting better and continued to grow from the beginning of the season to now,” Gustafson said. “What a great way to close out the regular season!”
